Talk about saving the best for last... All four class champions ran for the overall Track Champion with El Paso's Danny Dean coming out with the title; 2010 Arroyo Seco Raceway Track Champion. The Tournament of Champions race at the Arroyo Seco Raceway was by far the greatest race of the year.
Eighty seven racers from as far as Roswell came to take on the 1/4 mile track, even with the 40 mph wind gusts coming out of the southwest. (aka) A Typical November.
Time trials started 30 minutes later than scheduled, due to the low morning temperature, but even with such a large turnout, we managed to finish at around 11:30 am. After that, Al Tombaugh took the reaction time contest with a perfect .500 light.
Starting at 1 pm with the Dash-4-Cash 37 racers took to the track. The only of the event came when a racer threw the rods out of her Camaro at half track. Thankfully she pulled over so as to not make the situation worse and we all thank her for that. As for the winner, that went to Danny Dean who dialed in at a 11.61 and ran a 11.612. He seemed quite happy with the $370 cash in his hand.
Pro class started with a field of 29 racers and no buybacks due to the limited time of daylight. The class did have a third place runoff between Liz Montoya and Trevor Ward with Trevor taking the win. In the finals Al Tombaugh took on Joe Cicskowski with Joe winning the finals.
Pro Motorcycle had a rather great turnout with 19 entries in the first round of eliminations. And in the end Juan Romero took the win over Marc De La Torre coming in second and ASR Road Racer Brian Berry taking third.
Modified also started with 19 racers who wemt toe to toe for the afternoon. And after the dust settled Ruben Gomez stood in the winners circle with the first place check in his hand. In just his third race with his new car Jeff Henry took second with Pete Vargas coming in third.
Street class had 20 racers in the first round and this class is tuning into a proverbial battle royale. With all of the great reaction times and close to the dial racing, it seemed there would be some suprises by the end of the meet. And suprises there were with Amber Ward taking her first win in her Coupe. The runner up was Brian Schuetta and third went to Stephen Grant.

What else is there to say, the weather was beautiful, the vehicles were fast and the action was perfect. No oildowns or drama and with 74 vehicles on the grounds, that in itself was amazing.
The Arroyo Seco Raceway wishes to thenk both the staff and especially the racers for making this one of the smoothest races of the year.
Keep in mind that there will be a TNT on Saturday October 30th and everyone is welcomed to attend. The last race of the 2010 Drag Racing Season will be on Sunday Novemebr 21st.

Shop/Team Challenge & LS vs MOD class at EPM - pics added 10-14 Perfect evening for racing! Nine teams showed up to compete for the Shop/Team Challenge and Team I-10, made up of some of the regulars from ASR including Danny Dean, Trevor Ward, James McCall, Andy Wiles, Denny Parker, and Matt Mitchell, went the most rounds and took the win!
Underdawgs Racing with 4 bikes and 2 street cars took second place with team members Juan Romero, Andrew Godinez, Jim Taylor, Alex "iceman" Aguino, Juan De La Torre and Sean Mckay (not in the pic).
Andrew Duron brought out his twin turbo Cobra for the LS vs Mod shootout. The guys decided to run the class bracket style vs heads up since there weren't enough cars for both. The Mods came out on top yhis race! Andrew had the quickest car in the class and showed his cobra is both fast and consistent taking the win.
The Gamblers race was set up for first and second round losers of the team race. Zack Torres in his NHRA stock eliminator Camaro was part of the Hunt Team but was eliminated from the team challenge so he entered into the Gamblers race. Good thing he did, he went all the way to the final round where he faced off against Andre Jefferson in the Jefferson Racing Dragster. Andre overstaged resulting in a DQ so Zack got the automatic win and took home the money. Congrats to Zack and great job by Andre going to the final in his first time racing the dragster.

El Paso Motorplex Big Money Race Photo Gallery Hunt Family takes the Big Money at El Paso Motorplex Mike Hunt, in his Don Davis Vette, and his son Ryan Hunt, in his Dragster, both made it down to the the final round when Ryan took out Sammy Franco in the semis. They split the money and didn't run a final round. Robert Martin in the Maverick took the $1000 street class with Brian Schuetta in his Firebird getting runner up.
Since Mother Nature decided to coat the fresh VHT with sand right before time trials the race finished up late. The track crew decided to delay time trials and wash the track down with water, scrape, sweep, vht, and ran the tire machine down the track. They did a great job and the hard work paid off. Be sure to thank the track crew guys!

El Paso Motorplex May 15th I didn't hear a car count for El Paso, but the pits were filled to capacity. Unfortunately the race had to be called when one of the Southwest Superchargers blew the engine in the burnout sending engine schrapnel all over the starting area including a chunk through one of the starting line crewman's arm. Heard he was ok, but the emergency crew took him to the hospital and the race was canceled. The 6 to 8 cars in each class split the purse.
Drag racing weekend Arroyo Seco and El Paso Motorplex both ran over the weekend. About 57 racers competed Saturday at ASR. Greg Woolfolk in his gold '69 Camaro won the Pro Class on Saturday over Andrew Jaramillo.
'The Rental Racer' Brian Schuetta won the Dash for Cash $250 on Saturday, took 3rd place in street class and then drove to El Paso where he went more rounds and split the purse - in a rental Impala! Stephen Grant ruled the street class at ASR though taking the win on both days!

ASR April 18th
Winners Denny Parker, James McCall, Sean Cairns, and Lorenzo Maldonado
By Ben de la Vega
All I can say is that if you didn't attend this past race at the Arroyo Secco Raceway, you really missed a great race.
83 racers took to the track for time trials which ran quite smoothly until Ernesto Hernandez III ate up a transmission in the shutdown lane and created quite a spill. After the clean up the rest of the timing sessions went well.
The reaction time contest was over within the first five passes of the morning when Trevor Ward of Wilcox Arizona hit a perfect .500 rt. on his first pass of the day.
Time trials ended at 1:10 pm and after a abbreviated lunch the Dash-4-Cash started at 1:45. 34 entries showed up for the one round showdown with John Arzibal dialing in at an 11.16 and running an 11.161 and taking home $340 cold hard cash.
Street Class started out as the largest class with 24 racers and there were many new racers in this class and all did rather well. In the finals it was Lorenzo Maldonado taking the win over Cara Parker with Cara's Brother, Stephen Grant, taking the third place runoff over Juan Moral.
Modified was a rather tight battle which started out with 21 vehicles. At the end of the day it turned out to be the regular cast of characters who would be taking home the money. In the final it was James McCall in the winners circle with his Mac's Deisel Services Gremlin. Pete Vargas was the runner up with Andy Wiles taking the semifinal runoff over Danny Dean.
Pro Class also started out with 21 racers and this class really ran quickly thanks to the cooperation of all the teams. With wild close racing being the order of the day. With three cars left in the semi's there would be no third place runoff. It was "Smiling" Artie Hererra taking home the third place money with the finals going to Denny Parker taking the win over El Pasoan Matt Smith coming in at the runner up position.
The Pro Motorcycle class was still feeling the pinch of not having most of the DFC Racing Team MIA for the second race in a row. That didn't stop the 17 racers from making the call to the first round. And, as with the last race, it was an all Yo Mama Racing Team final between Lightning Computers own Marc Delatorre taking on Sean Cairns for the money with Sean coming up the winner. The Semifinal runoff was between Ryan Cairns and Bibiano (Bibi) Maldonado, with Bibi taking home third.
It is really nice to see new racers coming out to the track and some of that was due to Marc Delatorre putting an add in the Thrifty Nickel, in Las Cruces, offering to pay entrie fees to all Street Class racers coming to the track with a coupon. Marc brought in either six or seven racers. Thanks Marc!
I also finally got to meet Jerry Porche, aka Twin Turbo Tiger. If you like turbos and engineering marvels, you absolutely have to see this Sunbeam Tiger close up to see how amazing it trully is. As a matter of fact, his first pass netted Jerry a 9.84 at over 130 mph!
Low ET and top speed of the meet went to Al Tombaugh, of Mesilla, with an elapsed time of 8.283 at 158.99 mph.
The best newbie pass went to Deming's Joe Lemay. In only his second race, he took his Chevy Luv to a 15.405 run on his 15.40 dial.
Keep in mind that the next race will be a two day affair and the date is May 15th & 16th and we all hope to see you there!

Report by
Ben de la Vega
A beautiful Sunday morning greeted both racers and spectators for the opening day of the 2010 Drag Racing season at the Arroyo Seco Raceway.
83 race vehicles took to the track to make their time trial runs with the only major incident involivng a lady in a Chevelle who blew the bottom end of her engine and created quite a slick, however she was fantastic and slowed quickly enough to safely pull her car off of the track to minimize the amount of cleanup. ASR would also like to thank the volunteers who assisted with the cleaning of the track so the downtime would be minimal. Because of which, time trials were over by 1:15 pm.
The reaction time contest was hotly contested when Troy Renteria fired the first shot with a .502 rt.. Not to be outdone Denny Parker took the top spot with his .501 but that only lasted for a short time as Greg "The Wolfman" Woolfolk made his return to drag racing by posting a perfect .500 rt.. Low et and top speed of the meet was also run during time trials as Al Tombaugh blasted his dragster to a 8.23 @ 160.72 mph.
After lunch and the drivers meeting, 29 entries went directly into the Dash-4-Cash. One round of eliminations with the winner being the driver to come closest to their dial in. After that round the winner was Nacho Nolasco who dialed an 11.93 and hit an 11.938 to take home the $290 cash prize.
Modified had 23 entries answer the first call for five rounds of racing during the event. The drag racing Gods were smiling on Nacho Nolasco once again as he came up the winner over Danny Dean with Joel Hannig taking third.
Pro was next up with 21 racers doing their thing with five rounds. After some really close racing during the day it was Greg "The Wolfman" Woolfolk showing that he still has what it takes to end up in the winners circle. Taking the runner up spot was Arizona's Denny Parker with the "Stude Dude", Doug Hollars, taking third.
Street started out with 21 entries as well and really turned out to be a fast growing and entertaining class. When their day was finished, it was Javier Estrada taking the big win with John Pardone coming in second and Jason Saenz coming in third.
Pro Motorcycle was the smallest class with 13 entries as a lot of the regulars were missing in action. The finals were an all Yo Mama affair with Mark De La Torre and Sean Cairns taking the green and when all were said and done it was Sean taking first place and Mark coming in second with El Paso' Juan Romero taking the third spot. Hopefully team DFC can make the next race.
Other notables:
The King Family were there with their "Kings Ransom" T-Bird sporting a new nitrous assisted 517 ci Pontiac engine. Gordy King Jr. got the "Bird" down to a 8.47 pass, but a broken lifter ended his TNT for the day.
Reiging Track Champion, Pat "Sasquach" Mueller was at the track on Sunday without his Torino. It seems that Pat has contracted mercury poisoning and is suffering from vertigo. His doctors may release him to race later on in the season. Get well soon Pat.
The next points meet at ASR will be on Sunday April 18th! See you there!
