Thunder
Alley July 6th Results
Beautiful
night out at Thunder Alley. I got there late (chasing problems with my
car with no luck, oh well that's racing) but I got there to check out
the action just as second round was starting. I didn't get as many pictures
as I wanted to, but I think they'll do. Good racing though, had real good
time.
JR
Mirares drove his Don Davis Corvette through eliminations to take the
$500 check home. JR took out David Chacon in his Chevelle in the semis
while Russell Hudson got the win in his AMX, beating the white 70 Camaro.
Unfortunately I do not know who was driving the Camaro, but dang, it was
fast! A back half car running in the 10.20's is pretty impressive.

The
Modified class saw a new winner. Geno Leyba is usually out as the crew
chief for his dad's Mean Green Machine El Camino. Well, his dad's
car is down with a broken transmission, so he decided to run his recently
finished street car. Turned out to be a good idea as he got to take home
500 bucks. Geno ran George Aguilar in the finals. George Aguilar has been
consistantly good lately, making it to the finals for his second time
in a row (also a semi final in Arroyo). Manny Robles of Chaparral, NM
got third place in his Dodge, losing a close race in the semi's against
Geno. Check out the times!

The
Sand Baggin' Geno Leyba had to run arch rival Sand Baggin' Joe Pena in
the second round. Did I mention these guys are both sand baggers? Well,
the fellow MSD employees, both had a 12.00 dial (obvious sign of a sandbagger
if you didn't know) which made for an entertaining run. Geno got the advantage
on the line, .530 to .630, but caught him and both guys were getting in
and out of the throttle. Geno broke out less with an 11.8 to Joe's 11.7!!
In and out of the throttle and both cars still run a solid 11! Hmmmm..
Joe
Pena did make a couple time only passes after Geno eliminated him. He
got one decent pass on the bottle, but still not a full on nitrous pass,
and lit the scoreboards up with a 10.22 at 144
MPH!!
Tony Ortega brought out his
nice 67 GT Mustang. Tony made it down to the last 5 or 6 cars in Modified.
Pretty good for not racing in about 4 years. He got the 390 - 4 Speed
car down to a best ever ET of 12.96! This is a 10 year old Martin built
FE with the same old valve springs and slicks almost as old! Tony seemed
pretty excited after race, so expect to see him out there next month.
Yeah, it's good to get another Ford out there.
