Arroyo Seco Oct.20th! Excellent day for over 88 bracket racers out at Arroyo Seco. The weather was cool in the morning with cool breezes under the hot sun in the afternoon. It's so cool going to a track and seeing at least 10 or 15 cars that I've never even seen before! The time trials were delayed because of some timing equipment problems. But luckily they had Rolfe Sasenfeld and a few other people to figure out the problem. Because of this delay, there was no dash for cash, but Vic Hernandez would have probably won it as he ran almost dead on in the first round of Pro being only .001 off his dial in. The races went smooth all through eliminations until the final rounds were set on all of the classes. It was decided that the track would take to long to clean the oil spill from the Phoenix Racing Camaro in the semi Finals of Pro. There was a wide spread of oil from half track all of the way down to the turn at the end of the track. The two finalists in each class split the total purse. Roy Moore of Alamagordo, NM made it to the final round in his Big Block Ford Powered Mustang. Roy has this Mustang scootin'! He ran in the 10.11 range all day long.
John Walls Jr. of Chaparral, NM blasted through the Pro class in his dad's beautiful black Chevy Nova. Arroyo has a very tough Pro class, with some excellent racers and John Walls seems to make it to the finals rounds almost every race.
El Paso's Awesome George Aquilar drove his 69 Camaro all the way to the final round of Modified for the third time this year. George was hoping to get a chance to win his first of the year.
Chiva-Town Racing (no name yet) was the other Mod car to make it to the finals. One of their wins was against me in 4th round.
These were the street class finalists! Names to come!
Arroyo Seco is lucky enough to have the best race anouncer around! Where does he come up with his Drag Trivia? Excellent questions - those have everyone guessing!
We took my dad's Mustang out for the first time. He let me drive it since we were not bringing the Maverick. The car was not as fast we had ecpected, but does show obvious signs of improvement. It was hard to stage and cut a light - it really pushed the car forward when power braking it on the starting line (one .502 light 2nd round - LUCK!). But some how we made it down to the 4th round, seven cars left - "round before the money"! .... figures. Larry "Big Gun" Anderson made his first trip to Arroyo Seco and helped us out on the Mustang. Here he is celabrating our better than expected initial outing. Thanks Larry!
CLICK ON THE PICS FOR A LARGER VIEW! Pat Muller of Silver City, NM finished up the season in the number 2 spot of Modified Points. Pat is definately one of the guys to watch out for if you are running Mod. \ Gordy King Jr. has his T-Bird running excellent. I saw some passes in the 8.80's! And he can stop his car too! So all of you that say there's not enough shut down to race at Arroyo Seco need to come up with a new excuse!
Vic Hernandez was showing off his new paint job. Had it painted in Arizona. Vic was running super consistant all day long.
Thunder Alley regulars, Rolfe Sassenfeld and John Duran, both made it to run in Arroyo Seco. Rolfe red lighted first round with a .481. He bought back in and decided to put another .005 in the delay box for second round and cut a .486! At least he was consistant, right?
